Real Madrid are a very unique team. They are the most successful team in Champions League history, with 15 titles and the most successful team in La liga history, with a whopping 36!
But even still, with that much success, Los Blancos seem never too far from a crisis. When Xabi Alonso left the club this year, by ‘mutual consent’, yeah we believe you, Florentino Perez, then Real appointed Alonso’s ex-team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa.
The former full-back’s tenure got off to a terrible start, only for a few positive results to change that, but then a defeat to Benfica in their last group game meant that the mighty Real Madrid will need to play a play-off game to qualify for the next round.
For many other teams, that’s ok, but for Real? near disaster, if not disaster itself. Last weekend’s defeat to mid-table Ossasuna has brought the crisis feeling back at the Bernabeu.
The way the fixtures were this week, Real Madrid could have gone five points clear, but due to their defeat at the Estadio El Sadar, it means that they handed their rivals the advantage in the title race.
Barca, who lost their last two games, got back to winning ways with a confident 3-0 win over relegation-threatened Levante. Catalan giants Barcelona lead the La Liga table by a single point.
For any other team, that wouldn’t be too bad, but not for Real Madrid. Maybe they’re missing Don Carlo?
