In a previous article, we mentioned that the mighty Blackburn Rovers, a Premier League winner in the 90’s this term, is going through a full-on relegation battle. As prestigious a name as Rovers are in English football, they’re not the only massive club to be in such a plight.
Former Premier League champions, Leicester, who were Premier League winners as recently as 2016, are also in a relegation dog fight alongside the Lancashire club. Football fans and those who love a bit of nostalgia will be aware that West Brom, a team that regularly featured in the Premier League not too long ago, are fighting for Championship survival too.
The Baggies, if they do the unthinkable as far as their fans are concerned (get relegated), then this would be the first time since the early 90’s have the Midlands side been in such a plight.
For a club as big as theirs, it’s unthinkable to think that West Brom could be getting relegated.
Well, there is good news, kind of. The good news will be for two of these three teams. The question is, which one? Well, as things stand, Leicester City are the last team occupying the three relegation places.
West Brom and Blackburn aren’t that much ahead of them. The Baggies (34) and The Rovers (38) have a little bit of breathing space. Well, to be fair to Michael O’Neil’s men, they do have a six-point lead.
Insumountable? Most certainly not, especially since the Lancashire side will be playing promotion chasers Bristol City and Derby County, respectively. In my humble opinion, this appears to be a case of West Brom and Blackburn surviving, but Leicester City not surviving.
