Being successful does actually come with a downside: the scrutiny. Some of it is fair, and some of it may not be so fair. Manchester City, after completing the £20 million signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, have taken their spending to £414 million for the last 12 months.
What certain parts of the press fail to mention is that Liverpool have spent £450 million. It is worth noting that both sides are in full compliance with the financial sustainability rules.
I am not sure if I am being a little too particular, but just a bit of inconsistency from the media. When the 20-time Premier League champions Liverpool assembled their squad together over the summer, this, of course, included the £110 million British-record capture of Newcastle striker Aleksander Isak.
Amazingly, no one cares to mention these mishaps of Man United, who have spent ‘just’ another £200 million. O sports media and press, do better.
