Through all the scares of Manchester United’s management, it doesn’t seem as nerve-racking after Michael Carrick’s first game in charge as head coach.

The red side of Manchester would’ve been rather worried after all the critics and doubters making their cases for why Carrick would negatively affect the club for the rest of the season.

Especially before one of the biggest derbies in English football began as the former Man Utd player gave Kobbie Mainoo a league start for the first time since the beginning of August, dropping Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko from the starting lineup.

Instead, The Red Devils have highly praised him after a 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford.

In the first half, two of United goals were ruled out by VAR for offside, giving City a sigh of relief in their title race against Arsenal and Aston Villa.

However, despite Giangluigi Donnarumma’s efforts to maintain a clean sheet, the home side broke the deadlock in the 65th minute through Bryan Mbeumo from a counterattack.

11 minutes later, Cunha replaced the goal scorer and earned an assist as Patrick Dorgu converted from the Portuguesa’s cross.

Mason Mount thought he had made it 3-0 in the 92nd minute, but Var ruled it out once again as the playmaker, Cunha, was in an offside position.

Guardiola’s side continue their worries as they are winless in their last four games in the Premier League, and the points gap at the top of the table could increase for Arsenal if The Gunners win their evening matchup with Nottingham Forest.

As for United, they are unbeaten in their last five league games after bouncing back from a FA Cup defeat to Brighton last week.

Carrick’s army sit fifth in the table as the Englishman tries to help Man Utd gain European football for next season.
