Premier League giants Man United have appointed former player and caretaker manager as manager till the end of the season. The 44-year-old Carrick has also been an assistant to former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As well as having a glittering playing career at The Theatre Of Dreams, Wallsend born Carrick, managed The Red Devils in a three-game spell, where he won two and drew one of his three matches in charge.

Replacing Ruben Amorim, who had been in the United hot-seat for 14 months, Carrick is in for a tough ride at Old Trafford. The fact that he has played for the club and under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, is what the hierarchy of United think will set him apart from other candidates.

Former Man United manager Solskjaer was heavily linked with the role, but reportedly several senior players had their concerns, so Messers Wilcox and Berrada have turned their attention solely to Carrick.

It was reported that the United board favoured Carrick due to the fact that he was willing to work with existing coaches at the football club, which isn’t necessarily the case as it’s been confirmed that Michael Carrick will be bringing his own coaches.

They are former England assistant Steve Holland, who will be his assistant, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion. Michael Carrick will be in charge for Wednesday’s training session and will be in the dugout for the Manchester derby with arch-rivals Manchester City.
