On Monday, the FA Cup fourth round draw commenced before Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Barnsley at Anfield.

The draw had some very intriguing fixtures which included a Premier League showdown between Aston Villa and Newcastle United, and League Two side going head-to-head with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Of course, you cannot forget Macclesfield’s fourth round match which will take place at the Leasing.com Stadium against Brentford in what could be a second successive giant-killing.

However, a particular fixture that caught everyone by surprise was when Hull City were drawn at home against Chelsea.

The significance of this fourth round tie all comes down to Liam Rosenior who was recently appointed as The Blues manager and earned in first win for the club in a 5-1 away win against Charlton Athletic in the third round of the competition.

As well as being a former player, Rosenior was the former Hull City boss and managed the club for 18 months, guiding The Tigers out of the relegation zone in the first season before just falling behind in the play-off race in the following season.

The sacking of Rosenior at Hull was seen as quite a shock, but it was due to the owner Acun Ilicali having a difference in opinion and disliking the Englishman’s playing style.

The 41-year-old was last at the MKM Stadium when Hull drew 3-3 with Ipswich Town in a thrilling match and current Chelsea player Liam Delap was on the scoresheet for The Tigers.

Ilicali mentioned before City’s cup game against Blackburn Rovers that he wouldn’t like to face The Blues in the early stages of the competition.

I wouldn’t like to meet with Chelsea in the fourth or fifth round at home or away at Stamford Bridge,” said the Hull owner.

“If we pass this round against Rovers at our home, the only place I think we should meet Liam’s team this season is in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May. Then, if we lose to Liam’s side, we will not be too sad if it is at Wembley.”

The last time these two sides met was six years ago, remarkably in the fourth round of the FA Cup where Chelsea defeated Hull 2-1 at the MKM Stadium.
