Spanish giants Xabi Alonso, has been sacked by Real Madrid, with the clb announcing that former team mate Alvaro Arbeloa as his successor. Arbeloa, 42 takes charge immediately and will be in the dugout fir Wednesday’s Copa Del Rey round of 16 tie against Albacete.

The former Liverpool full-back whose appointment will come with a certain amount of risk, does to be fair have some pedigree, as he has won honours with Real’s younger aged teams.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s first task is though however to steady a ship that never seemed to be in control when teammate Xabi Alonso was at the wheel.
