Monday Night saw an unforgettable match for the Toffees at Old Trafford as travelling fans walked away with delight.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s first half strike was enough for Everton to win 1-0 against Manchester United, leaving them on equal points with rivals Liverpool and three points away from a Champions League spot in the table.

However, the main talking point was the incident that occurred before the goal as it was certainly a rare moment for the Premier League.

Idrissa Gana Gueye was sent off after slapping his fellow Evertonian, Michael Keane, in the face as it did not take long for the referee to make his decision.

The reason behind his aggression was due to miscommunication as Gueye passed the ball to Keane who didn’t expect to receive the ball as he was positioned at the edge of the box near his opponents.

Bruno Fernandes almost took advantage of the mistake as his shot just whistled past the far post.

Thankfully, for Everton, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford held back the Senegalese footballer to avoid any more confrontation.

Keane was not given a booking due to not committing an act of violence, although he was clearly unhappy with the situation and defended his side of the argument when the misplaced pass happened.

While it is a unique moment, it’s not the first time an occasion like this has emerged.

In December 2008, Ricardo Fuller slapped his captain, Andy Griffin, across the face and was red carded in Stoke City’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.

A more infamous moment was the brawl between Newcastle United teammates, Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer, in The Magpies 3-0 home loss to Aston Villa in April 2005.

The two Newcastle players exchanged with heated words before fighting on the pitch, ultimately resulting in both players being sent off for their actions.
