UFC Vegas 111 delivered some very intriguing finishes, making the Madison Square Garden event even more anticipating to watch.
The fight night included impressive knockout victories from Christian Leroy Duncan, Josh Hokit and Uros Medic.
While Joseph Morales star-struck the MMA community with his submission win over Matt Schnell in the co-main event.
But, the headliner was a key focus at the APEX as a Brazilian prospect has become a bigger threat in the welterweight division and knows what he wants next.
Gabriel Bonfim went face-to-face with Jamaican fighter, Randy Brown, hoping to extend his win streak to four after earning a controversial split decision over Stephen Thompson in his last bout.
The #14 contender was aiming to maintain his position in the rankings as it would be Brown’s second attempt to enter the 170lbs top 15 since his previous chance ended with a knockout loss to Vicente Luque.
While ‘Marretinha’ is known for being a dangerous submission artist, he showcased that he can be a threat on the feet.
In the second round, the 28-year-old caught Brown with a knee which knocked out the welterweight veteran, leaving everyone surprised by how Bonfim stopped the fight.
In his post-fight interview, Bonfim called out a former interim champion and current contender which would allow him to rise up the rankings.
When making the call out, the Brazilian said: “Colby [Covington], stop running away, stop running away.
“This is the Bonfim brothers, give me a chance so I can take him out of the rankings right now.”
When Felder asked how a contest with Covington would play out if that was his next fight.
Bonfim replied: “For sure, I’m going to retire him.”
Now with 19 victories and only one loss in his MMA career, the #14 contender is showing to be a real problem for his future welterweight opponents.
