Abu Dhabi provided more incredible MMA moments from multiple terrific battles, to Valter Walker earning another Heel Hook submission, to Quillan Salkilld’s stunning knockout.

But the main attraction was the headliner and while the build-up brought a lot of anticipation, everything came crashing down in the aftermath.

Ciryl Gane poked the eyes of Tom Aspinall towards the end of the first round, causing the champion to lose sight, giving the referee no choice but to stop the championship bout.

The heavyweight title fight was resulted as a no contest with both fighters feeling heavily frustrated, certainly the Englishman more than the Frenchman.

During the post-fight press conference, Dana White gave his reaction on the incident as well as mentioning how well Gane did despite being a big underdog in the fight.

The UFC President said: “Great showing, Sh***y ending.

“I think that after the Jones fight, a lot of people wrote Ciryl Gane off. He looked damn good tonight.”

Of course fans will be desperate for a rematch after such an unfortunate ending as this is the first time a UFC title fight has ended in a no contest.

White ensured the media and fans that a second matchup will be booked: “As soon as possible.

“It’s unfortunate it ended in the way that it did and yes I think there will be a lot more interest in the rematch.”
