Good evening, sports fans. I hope you’re well, looking after yourself, and in good health. Sports fans, we need to talk. Firstly, I apologise for not touching base with you for a few days. InshaaAllah, I will get back up to speed very soon.
Life got in the way. As much as I love doing this, certain aspects of life will always take precedence over this, no matter the story. Now, as my family is asleep, and I am sitting there pondering about life and the news of Daniel Levy, it made me think, Captain, stretch those fingers out and get writing!
Daniel Levy was the Tottenham Executive Chairman at The Lilly Whites. Which is like being the Chief Sports Writer at a site where I only write on one topic. Such was the notoriety of Levy, being Spurs and the other way round.
One was not the same without the other. Well, let’s see how Tottenham manage now. The North London club has announced that Mr Levy has ‘stepped down’ after 25 years in the role.
The 61-year-old has seen the sackings of several managers, some of the more elite managers in the world game. Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho and Harry Redknapp have been hired and, in turn, fired by Daniel Levy.
For the better of the club? In the case of Australian manager Ange Postecoglou, the manager tasked with bringing Spurs silverware after 17 years, he was also given his marching orders.
Levy said he wanted Tottenham to compete for the Premier League. A bizarre decision, as they had been 17th in the league and had won a trophy after over 16 years. Just please put things into proportion, Daniel!
Love or loathe him, the football world will miss him. Daniel Levy, in his prime, got Real to pay a world record fee for Gareth Bale and, at the time, a whopping £30 million for Luka Modric, but he was clearly worth it.
