Premier League champions and League leaders Liverpool have agreed a £125 million deal to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, a new British transfer record.

Once gone through, the deal for the 25-year-old striker will eclipse the deal between Brighton and Liverpool for Moise Caicedo. 

Isak, 25, will be joining the champions on a proposed six-year deal, in a transfer saga that has rumbled on throughout the summer. 

At one stage, it looked like the Eritrean-born Swede would not get the move he so dearly craved, due to the stand-off he was having with his former club. 

Newcastle, although they were saying something else in public, were keen to sell their star striker. The breakdown of the relationship was clear for all to see, but the parting of ways was going to be on their terms. 

The Magpies attempted and failed on several occasions in their search for an Isak replacement. 

Eventually, Newcastle agreed a club-record £64 million deal to sign the very talented Germany Under-21 international Nick Wolfmede from Stuttgart, who had seemed close to joining Bayern Munich. 

This eclipses the previous club record, Alexander Isak’s deal that brought him to Newcastle from Real Sociedad. 

Despite entering the final days of the transfer window and having a £110 million deal accepted, there was always a feeling that this deal would be completed.

The champions also appear prime and ready to sign Crystal Palace captain and defender Marc Guehi.
