The favourites to win the National League have took a surprising turn after playing just four games this season.
The Minstermen have parted company with Adam Hinshelwood after being at the club for 18 months, securing safety in the 2023/24 season before helping City finish second last season.
It does come as a surprise to York fans since they have not been beaten so far this season, despite only winning one game and drawing the other three.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion player helped Worthing gain promotion to the National League South, prior to his time with York.
The Co-Chairs of the Yorkshire side, Matt and Julie-Anne, did show their appreciation for Hinshelwood’s work with the club in the statement.
“We would like to thank Adam for everything he has done for the club since his arrival early last year.”
“We wish him nothing but the very best for the future.”
With such bizarre news, it could only mean that York would appoint another manager very soon.
Just four hours later, an appointment was confirmed with Stuart Maynard becoming the new York City manager.
Maynard was sacked by Notts County at the end of last season after failing to gain promotion with a play-off semi-final loss to AFC Wimbledon, despite finishing 6th in the table.
The Ugglas do believe that this is a promising appointment which could give fans high hopes for the season.
“We are thrilled to have Stuart with us as the new first team manager,” the Ugglas said.
“He comes with a high pedigree of football knowledge and holds the same ambition as ourselves in taking this football club to the EFL.
“We know all supporters will join us in welcoming him to the club, and we cannot wait for this next chapter to begin next weekend.”
All is to be revealed on how York City will do as pressure builds on them to succeed after their new appointment.
