Chicago hosted a UFC event for the first time since June 2019 as Illinois fans had the opportunity to watch an action-packed MMA event.

UFC 319 witnessed plenty of crazy finishes, including an impressive Mounted Guillotine submission win from Tim Elliott, and back-to-back first-round spinning back elbow knockouts from Carlos Prates and Lerone Murphy.

But, it was the main event that was capturing most of the attention from this fight card.

Dricus Du Plessis defended his UFC Middleweight Championship against Khamzat Chimaev in the headliner.

If there was one word to describe this five-round title bout, dominant is what the word would be as that’s the type of fight Chimaev produced against the South African.

‘Borz’ wrestled for the whole fight which didn’t receive a great reaction from MMA fans, but nonetheless, it was impressive to watch as he won by unanimous decision.

The new King of the Middleweights had a total control time of 21 minutes and 40 seconds, taking down Du Plessis 12 times from 17 attempts.

It’s believed that Chimaev’s next fight will be against the winner of UFC Paris’ main event, Nassourdine Imavov vs Caio Borralho, and Dana White thinks that 185-pound champion could defend his title at UFC 321 which takes place near the end of October.

The UAE mixed martial artist is undefeated with 15 wins and will hope to carry on his perfect record in the future.
