The Sports Buff ⚽️ ⚾️ 🏈

Hello, good afternoon, sports fans. I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves, and are in good health. My name is Ayyaz Malik, aka The Sports Buff. 

It’s that time of the year again, and the Snooker World Championships are back. The Barbican Centre, Sheffield, which has hosted the event since 1977, will do so again. 
Defending champion Kyron Wilson, who became champion for the first time after being Jak Kones 18-14, will look to avoid the apparent curse of a first-time winner at The Crucible. 

No first-time champion has defended their title. Ken Doherty and Joe Johnson are examples of players who have come close to doing so. Judd Trump, the world number one, will always be one to look out for, as will Ding and The Rocket, seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan. 

Off-the-table issues have plagued Ronnie, but he is optimistic he can tackle them in Sheffield. These two weeks or so will offer the highest-quality snooker. I expect no difference this time around, either. 

To start, there will be best-of-19-frame matches. In the latter stages, it will be best-of-13 in the semi-finals and best-of-35 in the final. It promises to be a brilliant tournament. This should be Trump’s time to shine. He’s too talented to be only a one-time champion. 

Watch out for four-time Champion John Higgins, who has been resurgent lately.
