Brazilian legend Marcelo, formerly of Real Madrid, retired from football at 36. Full name Marcelo Vieira da Silva-Junior had a glittering near 20-year club career.

During that time, he played for Fluminense, Real Madrid, and Olympiakos and finished his career where he started it: with Fluminense. Marcelo was a superb player, full of energy, and a key component in Real’s dominance in the 2010s.

Ronaldo was the one who would score the goals in that great team, but players like Marcelo made it possible for him with his work on the left-hand side. In Brazil, the 36-year-old did get involved in a spat with his coach.

A slight tarnish on a reputation which has seen him classed as the ultimate professional. Marcelo also had a 12-year international career.
