Goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon helped Newcastle reach their second Carabao Cup final in three seasons. In the second leg, Eddie Howe’s sides were 2-0 up from the first leg at The Emirates.
In theory, before the game, many would have thought that Arsenal, fresh off their 5-1 demolition of Man City, would provide a stern challenge. Although they had more of the ball, The Gunners couldn’t fashion too many chances.
Skipper Martin Oodegard’s effort was the closest they came. The Norway captain’s effort glanced off the post, with only home keeper Martin Dubravka to beat.
Newcastle looked hungry and determined to get back to Wembley. Arsenal huffed and puffed, but their excursions over the weekend took the stuffing out of them.
Up next for The Magpies will be Liverpool or Tottenham, which will face off tomorrow.
