Manchester City, who have been tipped for a busy January transfer window, have made one statement signing: they have tied down star forward Erling Haaland to a new nine-year deal that will end in 2034.

There were rumours circulating that Real Madrid was tabling a bid for the former Dortmund frontman, but this news has all but ended that speculation. In a summer that promises change with new faces coming into Man City and Kyle Walker due to leave, getting Haaland to agree on an improved long-term contract is maybe some of the best business yet.

There goes Alan Shearer’s goal-scoring record, then.
