Former New Zealand test star and inaugural World Test Championship winner Tim Southee has announced his retirement from test cricket after the November and December England visit.

For fans of the 35-year-old, there is a glimmer of hope that he will stay on after that, but that would rely on The Black Caps qualifying for their second World Test Championship final.

Southee has also been captain of New Zealand’s test side. In 2022, he succeeded Kane Williamson until last month, when he gave up the captaincy. Tom Latham now leads the 2021 World Test Champions.
The New Zealand paceman has played 102 test matches and taken 385 wickets at an average of 29.87.
