David Warner, who recently retired from international cricket, has been named Sydney Thunder for the new BBL season after he lifted his lifetime leadership ban.
On October 25, a panel unanimously decided that Warner had met the criteria to have the lifetime ban on taking a captaincy job lifted. The 37-year-old’s lifetime ban was handed out in relation to an incident in 2018.
In a test between South Africa and Australia, it was alleged that Steven Smith and David Warner, who were in Australia’s leadership group, convinced Cameron Bancroft to be part of a group of players who tampered with the ball with sandpaper.
All three men received varied bans for the incident. Although Smith and Warner have continued their careers, Cam Bancroft’s career has suffered the most from this fallout.
