It was one of the worst secrets in football at the minute, but it’s now been confirmed that Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has agreed to become the new manager of Manchester United.

Amorim, 39, has lead the Lisbon club to two Primera Liga titles since he joined from Braga. The Red Devils to capture the former Portuguese midfielder will pay Sporting £9.25 million, which will trigger the release in his contract.

With Ruben Amorim joining the Old Trafford club, this will mean that he is the sixth manager to be appointed since the retirement of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Amorim’s first game will be against Ipswich on 24th November, after the international break. Ruud Van Nistelrooij will continue to take charge of the team until then.
