So, the latest manager, Erik Ten Haag, has been shown the door, and now there is a chorus of fans, pundits, and even my daughter, probably saying that now was the time to let the 54-year-old Dutchman go from his job.
To correct me, those fans will say that the United board got rid of him too late. They said that Van Gaal, Jose, and even Ole, too.
We have been down this road before, United fans. Do you see where we are headed now? Now, Man United fans, we’re heading toward Optimism Avenue—you know, the one in the back street behind Sir Matt Busby Way! Yes, I am being silly.
No, seriously, United fans, you will be enthused by the managers linked with the club, bemused by the other names suggested, and try to talk up and talk down each candidate.
This time around, Gareth Southgate is getting talked down regarding the role, and Ruben Amorim and Xavo seemed to be the main two sounded out for it.
In fact, Amorim seems a bit of a latecomer to the discussion, but the Man U board has steamed through with discussions for the former Braga boss. What has also happened before is that each of these managers has started relatively well and faded badly as they have struggled to put their stamp on the side.
One just wishes they would stop making the same errors repeatedly. Each manager has tried to buy players to improve the team, but no manager has been able to do it the right way.
The Red Devils have too many deadwood players. Luke Shaw has been there since Jose, showing he is too injury-prone. Sir Alex the Great knew went to get rid of players, but this current regime keeps on to players for far too long.
Phil Jones is the best example of this. How many managers was he on the subs bench under? Fergie would have moved him on at the right time! With the new manager, who seems to be Ruben Amorim, most United fans can name the players that should be sold before he can start building the squad.
That’s extraordinary! After spending £600 million during his tenure, Man United fans could suggest who should be sold rather than who should be kept. Surely, better identification of the squad is needed to move forward.
This is my final point, and it is the most painful for United fans. Liverpool changed their manager r, and we have seen their new manager,r Arne Slo,t start so well in the League. Hiss Liverpool are top.
How many of the first-team players did the former Feyenoord manager get rid of? If you classify Bjacetic, then maybe one; if this was United, it would have been a lot more.
Just let that sink in.
