It’s called short-term for a reason. In life, not all of us, but some of us are built to see and enjoy instant success/instant rewards. The thing is, life isn’t like that sometimes. On occasion, good things happen to those who wait.
In that football sense, this can be said of Manchester City and Brighton. In the case of these two teams, granted the examples of these two teams may be not the most comparable.
City is one of the richest teams in the world and The Seagulls Brighton, is one of the best run, but now both are operated in a very well-constructed manner. As a result of this well-organized management, both teams are in control of the way their teams are operated.
Premier League champions in Pep’s early days were a financial juggernaut. The Blues would spend and spend some more. This kind of method is not a long-lasting one.
Teams such as PSG, Barcelona and once upon a time Real Madrid were the ones who would spend lavishly on players. Real were notorious for it, so much so that players who would sign for Los Blancos would be called or known as Galacticos or Galactico (singular).
The 14-time Champions League winners Real Madrid like Man City and Brighton are three clubs who have their operations in order. These three in particular are so well run.
Why do I mention this? Look at Barcelona for example. The Catalans opted for a quick fix and look how it’s ended up?
Ilkay Gundogan has to be sold (back to Man City). Gundo as he is affectionately known, is a player that could have benefitted The Catalans, but due to poor management financially, the former German skipper is leaving after just one season.
Barca whenever they buy big, they have to sell and work on ways to accommodate big signings, in this case, Dani Olmo. Real signed big in Mbappe, but they’re not having to juggle half of their side around to balance the books.
Premier League side Brighton have spent over £100 million on players. Will they be worried about the repercussions? Well not yet as their so well run. In the case of The Seagulls, one can guarantee one of the big sides will be in for one of their players with a big money bid.
Kaoru Mitoma or Simon Adingara? One of them you have to say won’t be at The Amex Stadium for much longer, because both are talented. Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United and Chelsea are all victims of a poorly structured transfer strategy.
Under their new ownership model, The Red Devils are trying to rectify by not paying over the odds for players, but at the same time, they’re clearly trying to do an Ajax reunion tour of the 2019 team.
So there you have it folks a footballing example of why it’s good to think long term.
