Premier League new boys Ipswich have completed the signing of Blackburn forward Sammie Smodzic and Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips on loan. Former England international Phillips joins The Tractor Boys after a loan spell with West Ham last season.
The former Leeds United player joined the Premier League champions in a £45 million deal but has struggled to settle in Manchester and usurp Rodri out of a midfield starting role.
City will hope a move to Portman Road, all be in on loan will be the move to help him resurrect a career that’s stalled in the past couple of seasons.
As for Smodzic, the Blackburn forward who is a Republic of Ireland international, was born in Colchester and it’s understood this is why he is looking for this move, to be closer to family.
The former Blackburn Rovers striker, who was the Championship Golden Boot winner with 27 goals, joins Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich in a reported £9 million deal.
