La Liga giants Barcelona have agreed to a six-year contract with Dani Olmo for a fee reported to be £51 million from Red Bull Leipzig. The Catalans have opted to resign a player who left the club in 2014 to join Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.
The return of Olmo arguably brings a selection dilemma for new boss Hansi Flick. Midfield is one of the positions that cash-strapped Barcelona are well stocked in. Maybe the 26-year-old will play further forward up the pitch.
Victor Roque hasn’t settled into life as a Barca player and Olmo is merely offering a different option to Roque? As good a player as Dani Olmo is, a joint-top scorer in this year’s Euros, The Catalans don’t have money to spend lavishly.
Barcelona think they do, in a nutshell, explains why they’re in this mess. Olmo returning to the club sees the Spaniard follow in the footsteps of Gerrard Pique, Gerrard Deulofeu, Adam Traore and Hector Bellerin in recent times of players leaving Camp Nou and then returning.
