Hello, good afternoon sports fans, I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves and are in good health. Sports fans, we need to talk about football and to be precise the transfer dealings that are going on.
The much talked about ‘swapping of players’ has been highlighted, addressed and now in turn outlawed by the powers that be in English football. After spending eye-watering amounts, not to be deterred from finding ways to get around such Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, players were getting sold to the Saudi Pro League.
No, I have not been living under a rock, but this issue is getting worse and needs to be talked about. I have branded it here as an ‘offshore account’. When businessmen use an offshore account to do business, eyebrows are raised as it touches grey areas when it comes to the legal accountability of the money.
No slant intended on the Pro League, there are some good people involved in the background and the building up of the league. The Saudi Pro League will need time to establish itself, and who has that these days?
The Premier League Chelsea when it came to selling on Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech, used the Pro League to offload them in. The same is now with Mousa Diaby.
With the greatest respect to Diaby, no one will pay the £60 million, reportedly mooted for him. Fishy? Yes very much so. Rules are there to be broken and with the right advice can be skirted around.
The powers that be in English football, thought they shut one door, one way for the rules to be flaunted in terms of excessive spending and the efforts to break financially even in a three-year financial year, but there’s another one still open.
This begs the question if the FA get on top of Premier League clubs swapping players to meet FFP and then can control to go to the Pro League if they feel rules are being flaunted, will they be able to stop the other loophole clubs will find for exploiting?
