Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has agreed a new one-year contract extension. The veteran Croat has been at the club since 2012 in an absolute bargain £33 million deal, when he signed from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Modric has managed to accumulate 534 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals. The 38-year-old also has 173 caps for his native Croatia. Having been rocked by the news that Toni Kroos will be retiring, speculation was rife that Luka Modric will be joining his team-mate.
For at least one more season, this isn’t the case. As a form of an extra sweetener to some very lovely news from the Real Madrid camp, Luka Modric will be the new club captain.
