Former Sevilla, Valencia, Arsenal and Villareal manager Unai Emery has agreed a new five-year contract with the club. The 52-year-old who was a four-time Europa League winner with Sevilla, helped The Villains qualify for next season’s Champions League for the first time in their history.

Since arriving at Villa Park, Emery has transformed Villa. When the former Gunners boss arrived, Aston Villa were closer to the bottom four, rather than being in the top four that they’re now.

Notorious for being more on the pragmatic side, his Villa side have played some positive football to enjoy one of their best-ever finishes in the top flight. Not since the days of Martin O’Neil have Aston Villa qualified for Europe, which puts the achievement into perspective.

In a close season that’s been hectic and chaotic already with the managerial changes that have been happening, Aston Villa’s board must be delighted that they have been able to agree to keep Unai Emery for another five years.
