After Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has been taken out of the running for the new Chelsea boss, as per several media outlets it’s been reported that Leicester boss Enzo Maresca is seriously being considered for the role.

The Italian who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant, won admiration last term for the performances of The Foxes and style of football that they played to get promoted last season.

Maresca had lead City’s youth team to the Under-23 title. A spell in his homeland did follow with Parma, which wasn’t as successful. This didn’t deter Leicester City, who hired the 44-year-old which proved to be the right call after the 2016 Premier League champions got promoted at the first time of asking.

As impressive as Maresca was, here at The Sports Buff, we have our doubts, those doubts are based on similar doubts that we had with Vincent Kompany being Bayern Munich manager, lack of experience.

What Enzo Maresca does have in his favour if appointed manager of The Blues is that he has a very talented squad. This very Chelsea squad at the end of the season was showing signs of clicking together.

The same could be said with any other candidate, but it’s back to the drawing board for West London side Chelsea and their owner. Maresca or whoever get’s appointed will need time.

Being a manager in the Championship and being a manager in the Premier League are two different things. Whoever becomes the next Chelsea manager, naturally The Sports Buff team wishes them the best of luck.
