After the first T20 was washed out due to rain, tourists Pakistan were comprehensively beaten by 23 runs in the second T20I. Winning the toss, visiting captain Babar Azam put England into bat.

The decision appeared to be a doomed one. Especially with Will Jacks (37) and captain Jos Buttler (84) making some valuable runs for the home side. England were threatening to get out of sight.

Imad Wasim, who was the pick of the Pakistani bowlers (2-19) and Shaheen Afridi (3-36) helped keep England in check. Harris Rauf also made a telling contribution with the ball (2-34).

That meant that England finished on 183-7, which was seen as a par score. One can only truly know if it’s a par score if Pakistan chase it down. Their run chase couldn’t have got off to the worst possible start.

Mohammed Rizwan (0) and Saim Ayub (3) departed quickly.  Captain Babar Azam (32) and Fakhar Zaman (45), put on 53 for the third wicket. After this partnership was broken, Pakistan were losing wickets at regular intervals.

Not even Iftikhar Ahmed (23) and Imad Wasim (22) who put on a 40-run partnership for the seventh wicket were able to help Pakistan. So in the end, Babar’s men fell short by 23 runs.

The next game in the four-game series will be on Tuesday at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens, where they will need to win, to ensure they’re still in with a shout of winning the series.
