World T20 runners-up Pakistan have named their World Cup squad for the up-and-coming World T20 tournament USA/West Indies. Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the last World T20 (20220 were beaten by England and will be desperate to right that wrong.
Pakistan will arguably be one of the favourites for the tournament and on the whole have named a strong side. Abrar Ahmed, the mystery spinner is in the squad, but all-rounder Usama Mir controversially isn’t.
The reason why this is controversial is, that Shadab has been woefully out of form and he continues to be out of form and is in the World Cup squad. Mir has had some time in England and has impressed for Worcestershire.
Another issue that I have said Pakistan need to address is the fast-bowler all-rounder role. In this current side, Shaheen Afridi would be the man that would be asked to play that role.
In Aamer Jamaal however, you have someone who is naturally able to perform that role. From the Pakistani fan’s point of view, let’s hope this doesn’t come back to bite them.
Other than that, the team is quite a strong one. Harris Rauf should be back. The 29-year-old will be crucial for his side, State Side. Pakistan don’t have any bowlers like him.
Former self-exiled bowler Mohammed Amir makes the squad as does the un-retired Imaad Wasim. Abbas Afridi impressed against Ireland and made the final-15 cut as does Azam Khan, son of the legendary Moin.
Lastly Qasim Khan, who recently qualified to play for Pakistan is also included in the 15-man squad.
