Former Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has announced that he will retire after Euro 2024, his home tournament. The 34-year-old who many thought would continue playing after a stellar club career with Real Madrid, where he has impressed this season too.
Kroos is one of the best players of his generation, Yes, this is my opinion, but it’s also the opinion of many of his peers too. Understated and not always appreciated, the former Bayern man was the glue that brought Real together.
Toni Kroos knitted this team together. Where other players might shatter ground when they’re on the pitch due to their combative nature, the 34-year-old Kroos would glide across the ground it felt like.
Everyone around him might be panting out of breath, but not Kroos. When looking at him in the first minute or the final minute of a game, it looks like he hasn’t broken a sweat.
Bar the European Championships, Toni Kroos has won everything club football has to offer. The German had four La Liga titles and four Champions League titles. It would be a fitting send-off if the former Bayer Leverkusen loanee could win the Euro with Germany in his homeland.
That would be some send-off.
