As per Sky Sports Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will be leaving the club by mutual consent. The former Tottenham boss spent one season at Chelsea. Before that, the former PSG defender would go on to manage the club, but that would turn into an ill-fated spell.
Despite having Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at his disposal, Poch struggled to make a success of it in Paris. A Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France would be won, but for a club of the stature and expectation of Paris Saint Germain, it was only a matter of time before he would leave.
When Mauricio Pochettino did leave there was a serious suggestion that he might go back to Tottenham who at the time were looking for a new manager. Only Todd Boehly and Pochettino would know the reasons why they parted, but after a tough start to the season, things looked to be on the up at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues at the time of writing are sixth in the League, which means they will qualify for Europe. At the start of the year, no one would have thought that. This was a transitional period for Chelsea, they have had to bed in a lot of new signings.
One of those signings Cole Palmer seemed to be benefitting under Pochettino’s tutelage. The former City player was Chelsea’s leading goal scorer last season.
With the change of manager, here’s to hoping it doesn’t affect the form of Palmer. I am going to call it here first, Mauricio Pochettino should be considered for the Brighton job, but with him saying in the past he would manage Barca due to his Espanyol connection, it appears unlikely he will manage Southampton’s South Coast rivals.
As for who should be considered for the Chelsea job, you can’t look past Roberto De Zerbi can you? He’s an ex-Brighton manager and he’s not working for any club. The Italian is ticking all the right boxes.
If he isn’t the man, then there is always Jose Mourinho. A third spell at Chelsea seems impossible, but never say never.
