Defending champions Manchester City took control of the title race with a 2-0 win against bogey team Tottenham Hotspur. Going into the game, both teams had something riding on this game.

For the home side Tottenham, they were looking to win to boost them in their quest to qualify for next season’s Champions League. As for three-time defending Premier League champions, not only were they looking to defend their title again, they were looking to break Manchester United’s record of winning the League three times in a row.

Visitors Man City were indebted to keepers Ederson making a save as well as back-up keeper Stefan Ortega. In a game that was settled by fine margins, both of those saves are potentially significant.

One key difference on the night between both sides was that visitors Manchester have a prolific/talismanic striker in the form of Erling Haaland. It was only a month earlier that pundits such as Roy Keane were laying into the Norwegian, but to the former Dortmund player’s credit, he has come back superbly.

Haaland has scored a hat-trick and a brace in his last four League games, putting himself of Cole Palmer, who was level with the City striker in the goal-scoring charts a few weeks prior.

City have passed this tough assignment knowing if they beat West Ham they’re champions of England again, regardless of whatever Arsenal’s result is against Everton at The Emirates.

As for Spurs, this defeat means that Aston Villa will be in the Champions League (of the modern era)for the first time in their history .
