Pakistan’s T20 cricket side has reached a new low after a five-wicket World Cup warm-up defeat to Ireland. Batting first Babar Azam’s Pakistan posted 182-6, with a near to full-strength team if not full-strength.

The 2009 World Cup winners didn’t have Mohammed Amir in their side, but he has only just recently come back into the side. Saim Ayub (45), Babar (57) and Iftikhar Ahmed (37) were the players to have made any form of contribution with the bat.

Pakistan’s scorecard saw Shadab and Azam Khan fall for ducks and the usually reliable Mohammed Rizwan for a single, which would prove crucial in the grand scheme of this game.

In reply, Paul Stirling’s men lost two quick wickets, but that brought in Andrew Balbirnie (77) and Harry Tector (36). George Dockrell (24) and Curtis Campher were other players to contribute.

Pakistan’s bowling wasn’t terrible, bar Shadab Khan who must be sweating on a T20 World Cup place. The vice-captain continues his difficult form in International colours.

The next game between the two sides will be on Sunday 12th May in Dublin.
