Manchester United overcame a spirited Coventry fightback and a fortuitous linesman’s offside decision to book their place in the final against Manchester City.

The Red Devils raced into a three-goal lead. What was promising to be an intriguing cup tie, appeared to be settled with a minimal amount of fuss, but this is Manchester United we’re talking about.

In the last two games, Erik Ten Haag’s men have thrown away leads against Brentford and Chelsea. Not to be outdone, United contrived to throw away another game that they were in control of, but this time in an FA Cup semi-final.

The Sky Blues, under Mark Robbins, have been improving season after season, despite the departures of key players. After a slow start to the season, former Everton striker Elis Simms who was brought in to replace Victor Gyokeres, has been in scintillating form since the start of the new year.

Simms, who was signed for just £7 million, could be another one out of the door and get sold due to the club cashing in on his impressive performances. Callum O’Hare too will be leaving the Ricoh Arena, so that means another encouraging season will end with players of great talent leaving.

It’s how it appears and if indeed the case, it’s a compliment of the job Robbins is doing at Coventry, clubs are circling for their best players. Rasmus Hojlund’s dispatching of United’s winning penalty left Coventry City what could have been.

When the match finished, United (the winning team) rushed down the tunnel and Coventry stayed on the pitch to soak up the applause of their fans. To think an offside is what prevented The Sky Blues from enjoying a Wembley day out against Manchester City.
