Manchester City recovered from their midweek setback, to book their place in the FA Cup final at the expense of Chelsea. The Premier League champions, who were missing the injured Erling Haaland for the game, did go close with a few chances, but it was The West London side who will feel more aggrieved.
Senegal striker Nicholas Jackson, who has been criticised heavily this season, was particularly wasteful for The Blues. Three times, the former Villareal man should have scored, but three times he failed to score.
This blockbuster tie between these two English giants was competitively played. Manchester City had chances, and so did Chelsea, but for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, I argue they had the better chances and by the time Bernardo Silva did score the winner, they should have been out of sight.
In midweek, City were unfortunate. Last year’s Champions League winners had the better of the game against 14-time winners Real Madrid but still were cruelly knocked out.
Today though, although they were in the game, Chelsea were the better side and they will be kicking themselves as to how they’re not playing Manchester United at Wembley.
This is a bit of a worrying trend for the West London club. Earlier in the season, they lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, when they were the better side throughout the game.
In the game, just like this game, they wasted a whole host of chances. Manchester City face neighbours and rivals Manchester United in a repeat of last year’s final.
The FA Cup final will be on 25th May, where United will look to avenge last season’s defeat.
