To whom it may concern, the Premier League isn’t a big league as much as it thinks it is. Why do I say this, just look at the fact that Germany and Italy. In these two Leagues, the discussion is there for a fifth participant to be added to the Champions League.

In the case of England, yes the same discussion is on the table, but it’s not at the same speed as that of Germany and Italy. The other factor which makes me say this as well as to look at Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane, two star England players.

As a massive of the English Premier League, naturally, I want to believe that I watch the best League in the world week in and week out. The truth is I don’t watch the best League in the world week in and week out.

Money-wise, Europe’s elite don’t come close and the Premier League does attract that certain type of player, but so does the Pro League in Saudi and so does the Super League in China.

The way I have tackled this topic, it might appear I am arguing that China and Saudi have a football League on par with England, they don’t but England blindly doesn’t have the best League in the world.

This season’s Champions League quarter-finals included two English teams as opposed to three Spanish teams. In Europe’s second competition the Europa League, there are three Italian representatives compared to two of England’s teams.

With Atalanta sweeping a side Liverpool 3-0 in their first leg and Roma in charge of the all-Italian game with AC Milan, it appears that there will be two Italian teams in the last four.

Surely England will have at least one representative, no? Well, the last team from England remaining in the Europa, West Ham, will need to pull off the mother of all miracles.

After these setbacks for Liverpool and The Hammers, they will be able to back into the transfer market, spend and improve. Maybe England does have the best League in the world, but it’s not an argument that they win hands down.

The elite players, the Ballon d’Or winners were playing their trades in other Leagues. Maybe in this current generation, Haaland and Foden will win football’s biggest individual major prize, but players like Bellingham will do so by plying their trades outside of these shores.

So the next time you are asked and you lazily think England’s Premier League is the best in the world, maybe give it some thought.
