For the third test in succession, hosts India finished day one in the driving seat in the fifth and final test against England. When the tourists took the lead in the five-match series, that seems like a long way now.
The Three Lions were the last side to beat them in their own backyard and were looking like they would end their record out of India by beating the hosts in a test series five years later.
England will be kicking themselves, so many times in this series they have been in the game, but then maybe an hour or even a half-hour phase Ben Stokes’ England loses momentum.
The visitors England won the toss and opted to bat. Just like in the other games, the opening pair made a respectable contribution up top, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley put on 64 for the first wicket.
When Duckett was out however for 27, caught by Gill of the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav, England’s next nine wickets fell for 154. Bar Crawley continued his good form with 79.
The English batsmen succumbed to Yadav, just like four other players did too. Fellow spinner Ravi Ashwin got in the act too as he picked up 4-51. India at the time of writing were 135-1, man of the series for the home side Yashasvi Jaiswal was the man out, stumped for 57 off the bowling of Shoaib Bashir.
