PSG kept their Champions League hopes alive and Bayern damaged there’s with a shock first-leg defeat to Lazio. Going into the game the Bavarian Giants were on the back of a 3-0 drubbing to title rivals Bayer Leverkusen. Many thought Sarri’s side would be on the end of a backlash.
As it transpired, this would be further from the truth. The SerieA runners-up last term would be good value for their win. Not an ideal result for the 12-time defending Bundesliga champions, but they should progress over the two legs.
Elsewhere, Manchester City overcame a plucky Copenhagen to lead their tie 3-1. Kevin De Bruyne scored early only to see his goal cancelled out Magnus Mattson against the run of play.
Despite bossing the early stages of the game, after 20 minutes, the game was all square, but to Man City’s credit, they killed off the game with goals from Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden in stoppage time.
City appear to be in control of their tie and as it stands, barring a miracle the defending champions will be in their seventh consecutive Champions League quarter-final.
PSG beat a young Real Sociedad side 2-0 on the night. That should be the end of that tie arguably, especially with the Spanish side’s wretched domestic form. The last game of our round is RB Leipzig against 14-time Champions League winners Real Madrid.
Los Blancos won this game without their injured talisman Jude Bellingham, 1-0 was the final score. Real have been down to their bare bones at the back, but they have been very clinical this year, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have 29 wins from 35 games this season.
Former Manchester City youngster Rahim Diaz got the winner at The Red Bull Arena. That’s your Champions League round-up, see you again next week!
