England have been rocked by the news that their front-line spinner Jack Leach will miss the rest of the series, owing to a knee injury. Somerset spinner Leach had only just recovered from a lengthy lay-off that saw him miss The Ashes in the summer.
Veteran Moeen Ali stepped in for that series, but since then England have been more future-proof with their selections. The 32-year-old Leach did play in the first test, which England won, but his contribution was limited due to the injury.
The Somerset bowler did have strapping on his knee. England opted to make the change in the second test, with Shoaib Bashir replacing his county colleague. I say England opted to make the change, Leach’s knee decided for them.
This news is no doubt a big blow, but with the way Tom Hartley has been performing this early into his test career and the encouraging performances of Rehan Ahmed, England should be more than a match for their hosts.
