After missing out on the first test due to visa issues, Somerset off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is in line to make his test debut in the second test in Visakhapatnam.

The 20-year-old who has played just six first-class matches to date, came to the attention of the England team after they saw Bashir do some bowling in a video on X (formerly Twitter).

The England youngster will make his debut due to his teammate Jack Leach pulling up injured in the first test. Mark Wood will make was for James Anderson. It was expected that Three Lions will opt for two front-line spinners, but the coaching and selection team, think they can succeed in the same way they did in the first test.

With Bashir’s selection, it comes with an element of mystery as not too many know about him. If the second test’s pitch is anything to go by the first, then expect Shoaib Bashir to get somewhere near the kind of success similar to that of new teammate Tom Hartley.

The second test starts tomorrow at 04:00 GMT.
