Jannik Skinner continued his recent good head-to-head record against Novak Djokovic with a four-set win against the defending champion and the world number one.
The Italian Skinner won 6-1,6-2,6-7 (6-8), 6-3. Skinner could have won the match in straight sets as he did have a match point in the tie-break. To his credit, Jannik Skinner didn’t allow that mini setback to affect him, to cap off an impressive performance.
Skinner’s win ended Djokovic’s impressive winning run in the competition which stretched back to six years and 33 matches. The world number one was looking for his 11th title in Melbourne, which would have been record-extending.
Italy’s Jannik Skinner, showed why I shouldn’t make predictions (no I have not learnt my lesson). Skinner faces the winner of the other semi-final between Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev.
