Hello, good morning sports fans, I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves and are in good health. Sports fans, and football fans, we need to talk.
What we need to talk about, is Manchester City. For those of you who know me on a personal level, will no for my sins, I support Manchester United.
In case you’re wondering, I was born right near the Seymour Grove and White City Way retail park.
True Mancunians who are from that part of Manchester would know what I mean, the same way they know that the City Centre is known as ‘Town’. No, it doesn’t make sense as there’s an Altrincham Town Centre.
Back to the football side of what we need to talk about, Manchester City.
Since 2011, till present, Man City have nearly wiped the floor, when it comes to winning trophies that domestic football has to offer.
Last season, The Cityzens turned it up a notch and won the treble (Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League). The Club World Cup and The Super Cup have been duly added too.
Readers of The Sports Buff will know that I type up an annual Pep has got it wrong post, then I have to say, sorry Pep Guardiola, you’re a genius and sorry for doubting you.
Not learning my lesson, I have already written my Pep is in the wrong piece (how he sold Cole Palmer, which I think he could still be.)
That’s not out of stubbornness, but Man City do need a player in the mould of a KDB-like player. Despite all the talent they have at their disposal, they’re not the same side without him.
To be fair, I don’t think any side would be the same without him. So with that in mind, players like Palmer being sold is a decision I don’t agree with, maybe ever.
The way I disagree with the sale of Cole Palmer is the same way I disagree with the purchase of Wolves’ Matheus Nunes.
Nunes had performed well for Wolves to start with but endured a loss of form, that still didn’t deter City, but at the same time, the Brazilian has hardly played.
The former Wolves man will be hoping he isn’t Kalvin Phillips’ replacement in more ways than one.
The obvious examples of Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz are the reasons that inspired me to make an article out of this.
Don’t worry, I have not forgotten. So, why are Man City similar to Chelsea?
They used to do the same I think. Josh MacEachern, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fikoyo Timori and Tammy Abraham are just some of the names to have seen their route stunted to the first team.
For that reason, I think they’re are similarities between the two, but do you agree?
