Jose Mourinho has been sacked as coach of AS Roma.
The Special One, who led LA Lupa to the Europa Conference League and the Europa League final in successive seasons, hinted things weren’t quite right at the Stadio Olympico.
As usually is the case, there is arguably more to this sacking than appears above the surface. Jose appeared to be unhappy with not being backed in the transfer market.
Or maybe he has fallen out with some members of his squad, that last observation, appears to be unfounded.
What is correct to say that Jose Mourinho had expressed his love for Roma, or maybe that more love was directed towards the fans?
Whatever the true reason, some glaring facts can’t be ignored. Roma are ninth and are in danger of missing out on European qualification altogether.
The former Chelsea manager won’t be short of offers. The news of Jose’s sacking will only increase the pressure on Eddie Howe, who on the whole has been doing a good job at Newcastle, despite this current bad run of form they’re going through.
Nice manager Francesco Farioli, due to the fine work he’s doing this season, could be a candidate as well as Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim.
One man I can say with reasonable certainty who won’t be interested in the position is former Lazio winger and current Porto manager Sergio Conceicao.
