An own goal and a Luis Diaz goal were enough to consign Arsenal to a third defeat on the bounce. It’s not as if The Gunners didn’t have their chances they did, and plenty.
Arteta’s Arsenal had 18 shots on goal, to Liverpool’s 12, but ultimately they have nothing to show for their efforts.
The Gunners’ poor finishing only emphasises the point that they can’t afford to go another transfer window without signing a world-class striker.
Players such as Victor Osimehn and Ivan Toney have been mentioned, but both will cost a premium.
It’s too early to jump to this conclusion, but if this poor form continues, then just maybe Mikel Arteta might have to bat off questions about his future.
This win for Liverpool was all the more impressive as they weren’t able to call on key duo Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah, who has joined Egypt for their African Cup of Nations campaign.
