Ineos chairman and OS Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed to buy a 25% stake in 20-time Premier League champions Manchester United.
In news what has been a long time in the making, comes off the back of Man United’s struggles on the pitch intensifying.
The Red Devils lost to West Ham United, which sees them having their worst start to a league campaign since 1930.
With Sir Jim being able to acquire 25% of the most successful Premier League club in England, fans will be hoping this will help United get back to the good times of the 90s.
The Manchester-born Sir Jim will be in charge of football operations at the club and reportedly bring Sir David Brailsford who was heavily involved with the cycling team, Team Sky.
Ineos owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who had been involved in a summer-long battle with Sheikh Jassim to buy the, will also provide $300m (£236m) for future investment into Old Trafford.
Fans when hearing this news several weeks ago were mixed about the news. Upon hearing the news, and looking at the news as a fan, I am encouraged that it’s a step forward.
I would have preferred Sheikh Jassim, who wanted a 100% stake in the club, but it’s not the worst consolation prize, The Glazers are not involved in the football operations.
If rumours are true Dan Ashworth, who is doing a tremendous job at Newcastle is rumoured to be the new Director of football at Old Trafford.
For that reason alone, I am optimistic.
