After a difficult World Cup campaign, England’s cricket board announced an ODI squad, that showed that they have one-eye on the future.
With the announcement of the test squad, it’s clear, again that England’s selectors are looking to the future.
In the squad are two spinners. Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir and left-arm spinner Tom Hartley.
Lancashire-spinner Hartley’s progression with the Red Rose, arguably halted the progress of Matt Parkinson, a bowler who we’re a massive fan of.
Parkinson is now seeking pastures new. Experienced players such as Stuart Broad (retired) and Chris Woakes (not selected) shows signs of England’s selectors having one-eye on the future.
Gus Atkinson, who is capable of bowling speeds up to 90-95mph ,comes in to the squad. Atkinson is uncapped at test-level, but has played for the white-ball side.
The Surrey man did play some games in England’s doomed World Cup campaign. So, to offer my thoughts on this, I am all for change.
When former captain England captain Joe Root tried to blood some younger players, many branded it as a failure.
Me, I wouldn’t say that. Oliie Pope has impressed and Dan Lawrence wasn’t terrible. Although he had a sticky patch largely through Root’s tenure, Kent batsmen Zak Crawley appears to have emerged from that a better player.
Crawley’s naturally positive approach alongside Ben Duckett, has proved a breath of fresh air for England up-top,
In other areas of the team, that England aren’t as strong, such as the spin-bowling side of things, then we advise, patience and perseverance is needed.
Not the biggest fan at the time, but with The Three Lions sticking with Jack Leach, it’s helped him.
In the time since being picked he has developed and become a very threatening option with his slow left-arm bowling.
So cricket fans, that’s my two cents on matters, England’s team moving forward. Do you agree with my thoughts?
