Iranian World number 18 Hossein Yofei carried on his recent trend of beating a former champion in a major ranking even, this time beating Sean Murphy 6-4 at York.
The 29-year-old who has upset four-time World Champion Mark Selby in the past, was too good for a disappointing Murphy.
This tournament is seen as one of the major tournaments to win alongside the Snooker World Championship and The Masters.
World Champion, Belgium’s Luca Brecel beat Yuan Sijun 6-4, to book his place in the next round. The UK Championship which started on 25th November, concludes on 3rd December.
