Minnows Holland defeated South Africa by 38 runs to deal a blow to The Proteas’ World Cup hopes. This however wouldn’t be the first time the men in Orange have achieved cricketing greatness.

Scott Edwards’ side did beat South Africa in the last World Cup. It’s getting to that stage that Holland are turning into South Africa’s bogey team.

Coming into this one, the Netherlands and their struggles were publicised as were South Africa starting this World Cup tournament like a house on fire.

Temba Bavuma’s men are one of the favourites for the title some quarters were saying. This defeat however is a wake-up call.

With respect to Scott Edwards’ side, yes they have caused some teams some real problems, but for them to reach the latter stages of the World Cup is a near miracle.

The Holland tail wagged as captain Edwards (78 not out off 69 balls) and crucial cameos from Relof Van Der Merwe (29) and Aryan Dutt (23), helped the Dutch to get to 245-8.

Led from the front by their captain Scott Edwards, Holland did very well to post 245-8, but with South Africa’s in-form batting line-up, this appeared to be a below-par total.

If South Africa thought they won the game before batting, they were proved to be wrong, very wrong. Chasing 245, The Proteas crashed to 207 all out.

Only David Miller (43) and Keshav Maharaj (40) were the only players to have made some sort of contribution for South Africa.

Holland are next up against Sri Lanka on Saturday, as for South Africa they face England next.
